Hello! Welcome to Vocabist!

My name is Andrew. I'm the developer who created Vocabist. I was originally inspired by the word Chantaje, which means blackmail in Spanish.

I was always surprised by how easily I remembered what it meant since it’s not a word that I use all that much. I promise I’m a chill guy!

The reason I remembered it so easily was that Shakira and Maluma released a song called Chantaje in 2017, while I was studying abroad in Sevilla, Spain. The song was literally everywhere, and I was listening to it all the time. Even though I had no reason to use this word, my brain had a reason to remember it... it was hearing it all the time!

Being exposed to a word helps you remember it, and music makes it easy to hear a word over and over again. Thus Vocabist was born.

FAQ

What data do you collect?
Honestly, not much! You can read the privacy policy for the full list. Basically, the only thing that Vocabist saves is: your email (if you enter it), any vocabulary lists, and that's kind of it. Vocabist doesn't even save your Spotify account information.
What’s the deal with entering my email address?
Okay, so Spotify basically doesn't let small, independent developers use the "login with Spotify" feature anymore because a bunch of AI companies were stealing all their data. So, the solution is that Vocabist has a Spotify account that shares playlists with you. All well and good. But there's a limit on the number of playlists that you can create on a single account. I’ll likely have to add another account sometime later, but requiring an email to get more playlists slows down the speed with which that will happen. Also, it selfishly helps me build up a small email list so I can share future updates and other cool projects I’m working on with all of you!
Do you support Apple Music, YouTube Music, etc.?
Not yet! But it’s on the roadmap. No promises when that will happen.
What foreign languages do you support?
Currently, Vocabist just supports Spanish. But there will be others! Russian is probably next since that’s what I’m learning next.
